In honor of Cinco de Mayo, I am sharing some of the photos I took of beautiful Mexico during our honeymoon in 2010. It was an absolutely amazing trip, what a beautiful and welcoming country. On our trip, we focused on seeing as many Mayan ruins as possible and eating a mass amount of Mexican food! We drove around the Yucatan Peninsula in sixteen days. Check out our live map for details.
As mentioned before, we purchased a few incredible pottery pieces in Muna. We found the pottery shop, Tienda de Artesania “Los Ceibos”, using the Frommer’s Guide to Cancun & the Yucatan. It was easy to find and so worth it. The artisans focus on crafting replicas of ancient Mayan pottery. We wish we had purchased more. We treasure the three pieces we have.
…just as you enter Muna [driving south on HWY 261 from Merida], keep an eye out for two large Ceiba trees growing on the right side of the road. Under the trees, a small plaza with stalls sell handcrafts or food. Make a right turn and go down 148 ft. On your left will be a store. It is not well marked, but it will be obvious.
