While living in Manhattan, my husband and I loved to frequent Caracas Arepa Bar for delicious Venezuelan food and drinks. One of our favorite drinks was their Michelada. I have searched and searched for a recipe that was similar to theirs and eventually gave up and decided to try to replicate it myself for Father’s Day. One problem… I forgot what it tasted like! The recipe
Lunar Fizz Cocktail + Mocktail
My husband and I LOVE a stellar cocktail recipe! Pre-kids we enjoyed perfecting our mixology skills and sipping delicious cocktails at many fabulous cocktail lounges! As our lives have slowly adjusted post-kids, we have somehow managed to start sipping fun cocktails again. Birthday parties are a perfect excuse to make a delicious cocktail for you and your guests! With the upcoming galactic inspired birthday party, we decided we
Detailing Your Invite Envelopes
I have finally mailed out my custom invites for my July joint birthday party (baby, toddler + dad)! While designing the envelope, I researched my options for postage and addressing. There are so many exciting selections out there! Custom Postage Postage is obviously a functional necessity when mailing invites, but it can also be a key part of your invite design. For my birthday party invites, I really
Daddy Day
Father’s Day is just around the corner. Do you have any plans? Here is what I am planning! Serve coffee, micheladas + a Spanish tortilla for breakfast. If you also have a husband or dad who likes a little spice in the morning, this would be perfect! I will be trying to recreate Caracas Arepa Bar’s michelada recipe. Look for my recipe later this week (I still need to
Basic Fluffy Whole Wheat Pancakes
A delicious, versatile weekday breakfast recipe. However, you can elevate it by adding some of the fun toppings listed below. Perfect for serving to guests on a weekend or just for fun! I have included the whole wheat in my recipe just to be sure my toddler is getting a bit more fiber than he would from an all all-purpose flour recipe. I developed this recipe based on Betty Crocker’s
Memorial Day Dessert
A red, white and blue dessert is a must for Memorial Day. The colors of the American flag just seem like the appropriate way to remember those who have served this country. It is nearly impossible for me not to make either olive oil cake or strawberry shortcake, both served with berries, for Memorial Day. This year I decided to make olive oil cake, which means I will be making strawberry shortcake for
Let’s Say it is Summer
Chicago had such a beautiful day today I couldn’t resist making my first seasonal batch of lemonade. Summer is technically about a month away, but enough is enough! Time to embrace the sun, warmth and flavors of summer! I love making lemonade. There is no comparison to freshly squeezed fruit served on ice on a hot day. Delicious! I love Giada De Laurentiis’ recipe, Italian Lemonade. Outstanding! I
Gold Covered Books
If you haven’t noticed on my Instagram and Facebook feeds, I have started gathering and assembling items for my family’s July birthday celebration! We have a lot of birthdays that month: dad, toddler and baby. Instead of three separate parties, we just have one big one. I am keeping the theme/concept of the party a secret for now. You might be able to get an
My Mother’s Day Baker’s Dozen
I have put together a little list of fantastic Mother’s Day gifts. Since I love baking, I thought it made sense to share a baker’s dozen of gifts. Occasionally, I think… do I really need a lavish day to celebrate something that has brought me so much joy? Later, as I am comforting my sick toddler who is puking in a bag I am holding who previously puked
Yucatan Peninsula Adventure
In honor of Cinco de Mayo, I am sharing some of the photos I took of beautiful Mexico during our honeymoon in 2010. It was an absolutely amazing trip, what a beautiful and welcoming country. On our trip, we focused on seeing as many Mayan ruins as possible and eating a mass amount of Mexican food! We drove around the Yucatan Peninsula in sixteen days.
